Art for small charities

Simon Wellington

Simon is devoting his artworks to raise money for small charities, as small means the money goes further. Currently he uses the phone box to help local charities.

Simon has an art gallery phone box

Charity Phone Box, Seaton Hole, EX12 2PX

Payment at the Phone Box is all done on trust. Two years ago, I asked the local council who owned the derelict phone box outside my house if they would let me repair and repaint it and use it as an art gallery. I had a large stock of prints, cards and books left over from various exhibitions. One of my last shows about 10 years ago was a one man exhibition in the large chapter house at Wells Cathedral where they filmed Harry Potter. The cathedral wanted me to print off lots of cards, and reproductions of my work, so they could sell them in the shop. Consequently I had lots of merchandise left over which was just languishing in my garage.
I made up my mind to sell these in the phone box for small local charities. (We have helped large charities over the years and have become disillusioned over where the money goes.)
The Art Gallery in the phone box collects payments based entirely on honesty. Purchasers can put money in our letter box or pay across the road at the Jurassic Bites Cafe when it is open. Failing that, if they do not carry cash, then they can take the pictures, cards, books, coasters etc. away and pay later online.
IT WORKS!
